Hall to Deliver Thanksgiving Address
On November 27, 2008, the college will host its Centennial Year Thanksgiving Worship Service and Rally in the Garrick-Boykin Human Development Center. The speaker for this occasion will be alumnus and prolific preacher, the Reverend Dr. James S. Hall, Jr.
Hall is the Senior Pastor of Triumph Baptist Church of Philadelphia, PA, where he has served for the past 37 years. Under his leadership, the ministry of Triumph has grown from 63 members to 5,000. His preaching has inspired spiritual growth and development in many lives. He is the admired “father in the ministry” to many “sons and daughters” across the nation.
The vision that God has implanted in him for Triumph Baptist Church has brought forth fruit in numerous outreaches. In 1999, a supermarket was built as part of the Economic Empowerment Program to revitalize the community.
He is currently a member of the Morris College Board of Trustees, President of Philadelphia Baptist Pastor’s Conference, Moderator of Pennsylvania Baptist Association and a past President of Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.
He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including three honorary doctorate degrees, one of which was conferred by Morris College.
A Marion, SC native, he married to the former Elizabeth Coaxum of Walterboro, SC, and they are the proud parents of four children and seven grandchildren.
The annual Morris College Thanksgiving Day Parade will begin at 1 p.m. and Alumnus Benny L. Webb has been selected as the parade’s grand marshal.
