SUMTER, S.C. — Miss Shanaka L. Hayward, a senior from Orangeburg, S.C. will be crowned Miss Morris College, 2013-2014 on Friday, October 18. The ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Garrick-Boykin Human Development Center on the Morris College campus.
Hayward is the daughter of Rochelle Hayward and Alphonso Riley. She entered Morris College in the fall of 2010 after completing her secondary education at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. A mass communications major, she plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career as an executive in advertising/marketing. She is currently interning with the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce in Sumter, S.C.
Hayward has excelled at Morris College. She is on the Dean’s List, a member of Student Leaders, the Morris College Ambassadors and the Nu Gamma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. During her reign as Miss Morris College she hopes to encourage other students to become active in campus life; believing their involvement will enhance the college community.
The theme for the coronation is, “A Captivating Evening to Remember.” Fond of the Harlem Renaissance, Hayward selected the theme because the era exuded a time that captured attention and still holds attention today for its rise in music, culture and intellectual pursuits.
Hayward will be accompanied by attendants, Ashleigh Brown, a senior from Charleston, S.C. and Terri Davis, a senior from Sumter, S.C., as well as a full court.
